Step 1: Assess the Situation

Move on to step 4 and carry out the resuscitation sequence for one minute before calling an ambulance.

If no

Step 2: Assess the Casualty

Step 3: Assess the Condition

Is the casualty breathing?

if Yes

if No

Step 5: Breathe for the Casualty:

Adult: Give two breaths of mouth-to-mouth ventilation

Child/Baby: Give five ventilations

Has breathing returned?

if Yes

  • Place the casualty in the recovery position.

if No

Step 6: Assess for Circulation

Feel for a pulse for up to ten seconds and look for signs of recovery

Is there a pulse or any sign of circulation?

if Yes

  • Continue with ventilations
  • Check the pulse and look for signs of recovery after every minute

If No

Step 7: Commence CPR

Adult: Alternate 15 chest compressions with two ventilations, repeat as needed.

Child/Baby: Give five compressions to one ventilation
